About our Community




New London is located in southeastern Connecticut on the shore of Long Island Sound. It is about an hour drive from Hartford, New Haven and Providence. It is also about two hours from Boston and two and a half to three hours from New York City. New London is rich in natural beauty, wild spaces, and history.
 



Kashrut There is a selection of kosher meat (chicken, smoked turkey deli slices, and meat) at the New London Shop Rite. Gordon's Yellow Front Wines and Liquors has an excellent selection of Kosher wine, located at 177 Colman St, New London, CT.

Jewish Federation: The Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut provides a variety of social services, and a local jewish newspaper--the Jewish Leader. They also put on an annual film festival and other educational and entertaining activities. Call 860-442-8062 for information.

    Directions for Driving From New York, NY and points South and West: Take I-95 North. Take Exit 82A (not Exit 82) onto the frontage road; from the frontage road, take the ramp to Colman Street. Turn left at the traffic light onto Colman. Colman ends at a T intersection with Bank Street. Turn left onto Bank Street. Take the second right onto Montauk Avenue. Ahavath Chesed is at 590 Montauk Avenue. From Boston, MA and points North and East: Take I-95 South. Take Exit 84. Exit 84 splits into 84S, 84N and 84E; take 84S. This merges into a road that becomes Eugene O'Neill Drive. Eugene O'Neill Drive ends at a T intersection with Tilley Street. Turn left on Tilley. Take the next right onto Bank Street. At the fourth traffic light, turn left onto Montauk Avenue. Ahavath Chesed is at 590 Montauk Avenue.

    Air and Rail Travel The closest major airport is near Providence, RI, about an hour drive from New London. Commuter flights to and from Philadelphia, PA serve the Groton/New London Airport, located in nearby Groton. Amtrak provides service to downtown New London.
